2 out of 5 stars The dreaded "Unspecifed error 5:0:0" error   October 28, 2008

Corel Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus [OLD VERSION]

This software has some great features, once you get used to the quirky combination of three Ulead Products. But, one of these integrated products has some serious defects. When you create a DVD (by Share) inside VideoStudio you are taken to a scaled down version of Ulead Movie Factory. For the first several home-video DVDs I made this seemed to work, though discounting the "quirky" interface. But, then I ran across the dreaded "Unspecified error 5:0:0" error that seems to have no resolution. I tried removing one of the videos, converting it and so forth, but nothing seemed to work. I might add that the videos were TV captures from a high-end Hauppauge DVR card that has not had any issues with any other software I've used, such as DVD Movie Factory 4.0, Vegas Studio and so forth. Unfortunately, when you hit this error during encoding you've reached the end of the line. The software just won't create a DVD, so I went back to my really old copy of DVD Movie Factory 4.0. Money wasted. Buyer beware.

1 out of 5 stars This item is not working for Vista at all!!!   October 23, 2008

I strongly recommend Amazon to test whether it works for Vista before claiming it!! I ordered one and it did not work, then exchange for another one, and did not work in Vista either, though it worked for XP. Definitely, my DVD-drive is working since it can install other softwares correctly.

Just waste time and money.

4 out of 5 stars Do a lot with various video editing software packages   October 21, 2008

I have used many software packages for video editing and I do like this one. However, of all the features in this package I really like the slideshow feature. I was able to assemble a slideshow in record time with fades and music. Great

5 out of 5 stars Oldie but Goodie   October 14, 2008

I needed to produce a video for the web within a two-day timeframe. I couldn't pass up the deal on this software ($90 off for the non-current version).

After a short while, I was editing with ease and was able to ouput the format needed for YouTube and a contest website. My ONLY gripe would be the audio editing window ... you are not able to expand the view vertically enough (for my tastes).

Other than that flaw ... I can't complain at $39.99.

4 out of 5 stars Same Old Ulead but Edits AVCHD   October 14, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

Like most Ulead products there are still some stability issues. When playing raw AVCHD video through the preview window during editing it maxes out the CPU on a Core 2 Duo T7200. Sorry, I thought that would be enough. It is so bad that when I am sorting through video segments I have to use the player that came with my camera (which plays perfect with little CPU usage), remember the file name and then go back to VideoStudio and load the clip into the project. What a pain!

Typical set of editing tools for a low-mid range video editor. Contains quite a few transitions standard. Rendering time to create a DVD from raw AVCHD shot in 1080p, 30fps on a Canon Vixia HF100 is supper fast (20 mins of video in about 3 mins). However, if you add one of VideoStudio's stock DVD menu screens it can take close to an hour just to render the menu.

Unlike Sony Vegas Studio (which to my knowledge still only handles Sony and Panasonic AVCHD), it will handle Canon's AVCHD format which is great considering Canon makes them too. What gives, Sony?

Overall a good product for the price especially when it was a Gold Box Lightning Deal for $30. Easy to navigate and learn for the novice editor. If Ulead would just fix their pesky stability problems I would give it 5-Stars.
